Sony ericsson unveiled its first EDGE enable phone i.e. z500 at CeBit 2004. This is a clamshell imaging phone that offers still and video capture as well as great gaming and fast access to wireless data and content downloads.

Z500 external features

The clamshell phone offers a dual LCD. The internal one is CSTN 65k color having resolution 128x160. The external one is also colored, supporting 4096 colors. You can also use external LCD as viewfinder, picture caller id and features like reading messages.

Z500 connectivity features

The phone supports EDGE of class 10 which is currently the best available in the market. The phone also supports Push-to-Talk feature. Push-To-Talk is a new mobile technology standard for quick one-to-one or one-to-group communication, in a similar manner as the two-way radios. This service is very handy in different situations, and is well suited for small and medium enterprises that need frequent intermediate contacts, or consumers that want to chat with friends and family. The Push-to-Talk capability in Sony Ericsson phones is delivered through cooperation with Sonim and is based on the Push to talk over Cellular (PoC) standard, thus ensuring the compatibility required to create substantial subscriber adoption and user-friendly services that work across networks and handsets. The phone is also equipped with an instant messenger based on wireless village technology which is getting popular nowadays.

Z500 entertainment features

The phone comes up with built in digital VGA camera, allowing both taking pictures and creating videos. Quick share is also present that allows you all latest possibilities to send multimedia content to other phones, computers, printers and over the network. The MusicDJ feature is very adorable. Now you can compose polyphonic music up to 16 chords using this application. 3d gaming is also there which will give you a more real gaming experience.

Availability in the market

This model falls into a business category more instead of youth. In my opinion, it is a very impressive phone for clamshell lovers. Furthermore, EDGE and Push-to-Talk features are superb. The cell phone will be available in quarter 3 of year 2004 and will get the attention of business community, because of its wireless data applications and the youth, because of its rich suite of imaging and entertainment features.
