Thickness
Overall Sony Ericsson W550 handset is quite in its dimensions but this might appear as a chunk in tight pair of jeans but the length and width are reasonable but still unable to compensate the thickness flaw. The handset should have been little thin just like Motorola's popular brand, Razr.Small Flat Keys
The handset has relatively small and flat keys that creates problem when the handset is used by mails having big thumb. Small keys are good for female handsets but being a popular walkman handset such keys don't fit well in the scene. Secondly, keys should have been raised. Having such a beautiful D-Pad, this was quite surprising the handset is equipped with such bad keypad.Lens Cover
Having a good 1.3 mega pixel camera this was quite amazing that the handset does not have a lens cover, so this gives an impression that Sony Ericsson has not worked with the photographic features in the camera. If anyhow Sony Ericsson has placed a camera in the handset so they must have taken care of the most sensitive part of the camera, lens.Dual Speaker
Sony Ericsson W550 has dual speakers and one of them is at the back of the camera near to the camera lens. I think that they should have placed one speaker on each side of the handset; this would have been a new effective change in trend and also would have created good sound effects.Memory
Sony Ericsson W550 does not have a memory expansion slot as most of the other handsets do have, so 256 MB memory would of course be insufficient for the users who are music lovers but this is more then enough for partial music players.EDGE
Sony Ericsson W550 being a handset of modern era supports all kind of connectivity which a GSM handset can provide, but I was surprised to see that the handset is not capable of providing EDGE connectivity. So this can be a major set back for Sony Ericsson in the market. Conclusion
Sony Ericsson W550 being a tri-band GSM handset is the dream of music fans and carries most of the applications that are the source of amusement for all kind of users. It can behave as a full functional walkman and radio as well. At the same time it can be a source of photography for those who love to be photographer. For business users this can be an ultimate solution to check out their mails on while being on their way. So in short, the handset is a multifunction. But, Sony Ericsson should also have taken care some of the main features as well. For example the keypad is not as good as it is used to be in other Sony Ericsson handsets. The camera is there to just serve the purpose but the picture quality is not too good and contains too much noise in the pictures taken, Providing the AM Radio support would also been an amazing hands on for the handset. Last but not least there is no Memory expansion slot in the handset, and providing only 256 MB on board memory could not serve the needs of many users. I think that these are the reason why the handset is ranked below Sony Ericsson's W800.
