Sony Ericsson W550, a spinner handset much similar to the Sony Ericsson S700, is second walkman handset in a row by Sony Ericsson. The handset was announced to be launched in 4th Quarter of 2005 and at the moment it is easily available in the market. Sony Ericsson W550 is a tri band handset that supports GSM900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900.At the moment Sony Ericsson has launched the handset in two face plates, smooth and plane white faceplate and soft rubber compound based Orange face plate, which might be a brand symbol for walkman handsets by Sony Ericsson as it is also present in Sony Ericsson W800.

Sony Ericsson W550 is launched in two different versions, Sony Ericsson W550-i for European, African, Middle East and Asia users and Sony Ericsson W550-c for China users.Keys Design
Being a spinner handset, Sony Ericsson W550 provides easy to access navigational keys, Left and Right Soft Keys, Clear Key, Back Key, Web Key, a dedicated walkman key along with D-Pad present on the lower half of screen. A full split amber backlit keypad with flat keys under the screen is also present, which can be viewed by spinning the phone.Two, one on each side, easy to access gaming buttons are also present that can only be used while playing games.

Sony Ericsson W550 is light weight and easy to carry up handset that weighs only 128 grams in total. The dimensions of the handset are 93 x 22.5 x 46.5 mm (3.6" x 1.8" x .9") which is quite reasonable. Sony Ericsson W550's display, much similar to the one we see in K750 and W800, is equipped with a 176x220 pixel TFT screen graphical display of that is capable of displaying up to 262000 colors with the resolution of 176x220 pixels. Sony Ericsson W550 is equipped with standard Li-Ion battery and its performance is observed to be extra-ordinary as compared to other batteries.The battery is certified to give a performance of up to 8.5 hours (510 minutes) of GSM talk as compared to Nokia's E-series Li-Ion battery that gives about 7 hours of talk time and Black-Berry's battery that only gives 4 hours of GSM talk time , not only this the handset is active and alive for about 400 hours than Nokia E-Series' of about 260 hours in GSM Standby mode.

Radio and music player both are capable to work properly in the background while working with some other application. If you are using any other application in the handset and the song has finished playing then the name of the new song will pop up from the top of display.
Camera
Sony Ericsson W550 is also mounted with 1.3 mega pixel camera with 4 x digital zoom especially for close ups. Pictures can be taken in three resolutions Large (1280 x 1024), Medium (640 x 480) and small (160 x 120). The camera supports two picture quality levels Normal and Fine quality. You can also choose one effect from the available four effects for photographs, Black & White, Negative, Sepia, and Solarize. The camera also supports four different shooting modes which are Normal, Panorama, Frames, and Burst.You can also record videos using Sony Ericsson W550, limited to the available memory, in two different quality resolutions Large (176 x 144) and Small (128 x 96).
You can define multiple email accounts and signature in the handsets for Emails. Just like Microsoft Outlook, the handset also provides the option to whether only download only the headers or the complete messages.
