T68i, the first product from Sony ericsson

Ericsson (T68m) is the first color cellular phone from the company. In the end of 2001, Sony Corporation and Ericsson merged together and established a new joint company called Sony ericsson Mobile Communications. The new company launched a new phone, the T68i, which was basically the improved version of T68m with the Sony ericsson logo

Difference between Ericsson t68 and Sony ericsson t68i

The hardware of Ericsson t68m and Sony ericsson t68i is same. The only difference is the software. T68 users can also upgrade to t68i from any Sony ericsson service centre. The main features added to the phone are MMS, camera accessory compatibility and dynamic memory allocation. Furthermore, a few connectivity bugs are also removed and a picture phone book is also added. The new color combination depicts an entirely different view and concept which is appreciated by many users.

The phone size is very valid 100x48x20 mm, 84 grams. The 256 color screen provides a resolution of 101 x 80 pixels. The phone also allows changing the font size of text in three different levels as this feature is present in almost every Ericsson phones. The display brightness can also be set, but the display fades when the phone is subjected to direct sunlight.

The battery time of the phone is very impressive. It could easily work for 7 days. In my personal experience, I charge the battery every Friday and I have an average talk time of about 15 – 20 minutes a day. If you increase talk time to 30-35 minutes a day, even then it can give you five days.

The phone came with all of the possible connectivity options. This tri band cell phone provides GSM, GPRS, CSD, HSCSD, Infra Red, and Blue tooth. Blue tooth is really impressive and provides a lot of extensibility like Blue tooth headset, connection with PDA and other Blue tooth devices. The phone itself has an email client and a colored WAP browser version 2.0. Just take a picture from external camera and you can send it as MMS, Email or transfer it directly to other mobile via infrared or Blue tooth. These are the totally new concepts when the phone was released.
Another impressive feature of sound recorder is present. With dynamic allocation you can record a maximum of 23-25 minutes of sound recording. You can also record and incoming or outgoing call in the cell phone. Furthermore, timed profiles, enhanced phonebook, voice commands, 8 games and picture sketcher are also present.

The Sony ericsson t68i is certainly a very successful cell phone in the market. Even after two years of its release I see people who are still using it and wont going for an upgrade. The phone is a complete business phone and a fashion phone for youth. With a quite impressive battery life, small size, email and a lot of connectivity options, there is not doubt that it is a business phone. With its elegant curves, eye catching color and MMS functionalities it is a perfect fashion phone. Today, I found only one thing that should be present in the phone and that is the polyphonic tones but this technology was under development when this set was released. Sony ericsson t68i has a lot of users in the market and this model helped Sony ericsson very much to capture its users. The price of the phone was very high when it was released (400-500 $) but now it's around (180–200 $) in the market.
