Sony ericsson has been working a lot in its successful k series to satisfy users of every class. It is basically an advancement to the best seller t series i.e. t610 and t630. At first sony ericsson k700i hit the market, then k500 with a relatively economical solution and now its Sony ericsson k300 with further reduced price and features.

Features

Sony ericsson k300 is lighter and smaller than other members of k series. Lets start with the screen first. sony ericsson k700i got 172 x 220, k500 got 128 x 170, and k300 comes up with 128 x 128. Furthermore, its 65k STN instead of 65k TFT. At hardware level and software level, camera is same as others; in this case you can extend the image quality upto 1 megapixel. Infrared is still present to satisfy sharing needs. As far as memory is concerned, A total of 10Mb memory pool is present, 8Mb is available for user. K700 is equipped with 42Mb memory while k500 got 12Mb memory. In all of them, there is no slot for a memory card.
Sony ericsson k300 supports java MIDP 2.0. But not word heard regarding 3D games. With this screen size and quality; 3D games is not something useful. The cellphone also inherits features such as mp3 player, equalizer, dictaphone etc. You can't use it as a perfect mp3 player because of less memory, but you can still enjoy mp3 ringtones and a couple of mp3 quality songs.

Conclusion

In my opinion, Sony ericsson k300 is a nice move to stay in every segment. Normally extended versions of cellphones are released with time. But this time Sony ericsson is doing it in reverse direction. But this is a successful policy too i.e. cutting down the price and reducing the features. Apart from screen quality, Sony ericsson k300 gets the edge from rival models e.g. Siemens C65. Sony ericsson k300 gets released in February 2005 and its initial price would be around 30 dollars less than k500.
