Siemens has been contributing a lot to the wireless communications. It has been working on GSM/GPRS networks and GSM/GPRS cell phones, 3G/UMTS networks and phones, cordless phones etc and having a position and share in the corresponding markets. As far as cellular phones are concerned, Siemens is in the top race alongwith Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, SonyEricsson and is going fine, improving a lot. According to a press release from Siemens; Siemens is No. 2 worldwide in GSM cell phones thus holding the 19% of total market share.
Note: The next I will discuss Siemens only with respect to the cell phones.

Series 65

Siemens has recently introduced the Series 65 platform which basically focused on multimedia requirements of the users. Thus Siemens updated its cell phones, trying to fulfill the requirement of every type of users. Siemens S65 combines the business style with multimedia features. For outdoor and sporty users, Siemens M65 is the best solution by Siemens which is dust proof, shock proof. If you have multimedia features at top priority! then Siemens CX65 is for you. If you need same features but relatively cheap solution! then Siemens C65 provides you the solution. If you need a new fashion style then Siemens CF62, SL65 give you what you need. I wont discuss Siemens smartphones and UMTS phones in this context.

Siemens smartphones

As far as smartphones are concerned, Siemens is said to be the one who joined the party little late. Siemens SX1 is the only smartphone uptill now and it also got a late release. It is based on Symbian OS and Nokia series 60 platform; thus nothing new from Siemens in this context.

Integration with RIM Blackberry

Siemens and RIM (Research in Motion) will work together to provide integrated data connectivity capabilities on Siemens mobile phones using BlackBerry email, calendar and browser applications. Siemens plans to introduce BlackBerry-enabled handset based on its own 65 platform for mobile phones in the fourth quarter of 2004. Survey and User Opinions

When I took Siemens under my survey, I didn´t find a lot of Siemens users in the Asian market. But, it is very important to say that some of the top multinational companies and other organizations have Siemens mobiles as their official cell phones. Their employees get a lot of privileges in Siemens cell phones i.e. either cheap price or free. This is an effective strategy that Siemens spends resources in sponsoring events, campaigns and companies.


People who liked Siemens cell phones said that they´re relatively cheap. They preferred Siemens over SonyEricsson because of the reason that Siemens cell phones are not slow as the SonyEricsson cell phones are.

The main reason that people dont buy Siemens cell phones (in my and user´s opinion) is that Siemens dont offer the cell phone that offer something really "new". People also say that Siemens cell phones dont provide a good way of navigating the cell phone. For excample; if you switch from Nokia, Samsung or SonyEricsson to Siemens; it will be hard for you to browse the phone and to view its features. A lot of people were not impressed by the shape of Siemens cell phones and that was the only reason they havent bought Siemens.


In my opinion, the above negative points were based on previous Siemens cell phones probably series 55. Now, series 65 is there and they´re also integrating Blackberry in the cell phones; so users point of view may change in coming months. I also asked about around 10 cell phone vendors here and even they said that if someone comes to buy an expensive cell phone; they always prefer Nokia first and then Samsung. And if someone comes to buy a cheap phone of average class, then some people consider Siemens average class cell phones.
