Samsung d410 is the slider phone from Samsung. It is the first of its kind by Samsung. The phone is not yet released officially and there are chances that instead of this handset, an update of it will be released in the market. But, it is interesting to have a look at the phone and the new technologies introduced in it.
External Look
If you hold the phone for the first time,
Samsung d410 seems a little big and heavy too. The slider function is very impressive and user friendly. You can open and close the phone with one hand without any irritation. And, you can also receive call without the slider being open. According to Samsung, the phone will be available in three colors i.e. metallic silver, mirror gray and indigo blue. The camera on top provides 180 degree rotation which is also present in other Samsung phones.
New features and technologies
Not only the slider, but some other features are also introduced in the phone.
Samsung d410 screen has a capability to display 262 k color. This makes the colors more sharp and close to real. Soon this color depth will become a standard for top-class cell phones, and once again Samsung is taking over the lead. Same is the case with polyphonic tones; Samsung d410 supports up to 64 channel polyphonic tones. Although tones of this quality are hard to find, but the preinstalled ones are good. Unfortunately, its also hard to feel the difference between 32 and 64 polyphony, until you hear both of them at one.
Shortcomings
At a first look, the phone looks fine and it seems there are no problems in it. But when you deeply get into the functions, there are a lot of discrepancies and you can say blunders while designing the phone. First of all, there are technology gaps in connectivity options. IrDa is there but you can send pictures to computer or other phone. You even cant send the pictures via a data cable. It is interesting to know that the phone can record a nice quality video, but on the other side there is no way that you can send the video to other phone or PC. Furthermore, the 10MB memory is there but it is not dynamic which would be a great disadvantage for users who use the phone for a specific purpose. The menu speed is reported slow. And a relative bulkiness could stop you to buy that phone. The quality of camera is also not up to the mark with the screen quality and tones. Furthermore, poor reception is also reported in GSM 1900 MHz networks.
Conclusion
As a conclusion I say that,
Samsung d410 is a phone with new design and concepts, but its discrepancies make it far from a phone that should be bought. The phone is expected to be at the start of year 2005 and I am sure that Samsung will not release that phone, rather updating the model after removing the disadvantages.
