Roaming
Cell Phone Roaming
Cellular phones are just like radios as they communicate and act the way radios are, but they have a few properties of wireless as well as through it you can communicate both sides as well. The cellular phones transmit radio frequency signal in a specific bandwidth and it depends entirely on the service you are using. The frequencies for cellular phones range from 800 to 1900 Mhz while the analog ones have a frequency of around 800, the Digital phones have a much higher frequency that goes up to 1900 Mhz.In order to understand the concept of roaming you must understand how a cellular phone works. Cell telephony is a system that consists of two parts, a cellular phone and a network. While the network is an infrastructure of towers or antennas called cell sites strategically located at a certain distance from each other, designed to cover certain geographic area called cell while the cell phones are the carriers that receive calls. The whole network is controlled by the Mobile Telephone Switching Office which controls the calls within its network and connects the calls to and from the local telephone landlines, thus making possible to you to make or receive calls from any regular home phone from anywhere in the world.
Calls outside your "home" service areas
This is the network that identifies your cell phone and communicates with it whenever you get a call. If your number matches the number in the database of the network then you are in home area otherwise it is roaming. Basically roaming is a facility that allows cell phone users to use their phones to place and receive calls in cities outside their "home" service areas. This feature is useful when traveling outside your home coverage area and want to stay with your friends and family. The difficult part of the whole thing is getting various systems to communicate and pass routing and billing information to each other. Whenever you go into any area that is not HOME area, the cell phone automatically tries to locate the best available network available; the cell phone identifies itself to the switch. When the network switch looks up the information and finds out in its database that it is not a local phone. The network then tries to determine if roaming is possible for them or not. The home switch will also be notified about the change so that it can route calls to the switch in the roaming location.
Exorbitant high roaming rates
But it is important to note that despite the very fact that roaming is a facility to the cell phone users but the exorbitant rates of the roaming don't let it practically possible for you to use the same phone. Roaming charges are basically the charges that your cell company charges when you make or receive calls outside your home area. It is always better to go for a complete knowledge of the packages before you start using your cell phone in other areas.Callback could be a solution to solve the high roaming fees.
