Multimedia Features

Multimedia Facilities

Nokia E-70 has a general purpose music player. The music player is able eto support MP3 files and AAC file formats.

It is quite amazing for me that such a great smart phone is lacking in the multimedia features. These days, handsets used to contain some advance media players, although the normal MP3 player serve the purpose but having other media players would have increased the charm of listening to the different format music files just like Nokia 3250 has Real player to facilitate the users by supporting diverse file formats. Also the file formats are quite limited, so Motorola was having the option to embed advance music player and support diverse music formats.

Most of the handsets these days have FM Radios support, as are present in most of the Nokia handsets; Nokia 7380 also owns a FM Stereo Radio gathering live music transmission over the air for listeners. Nokia E-70 should have contained the FM Radio to meet the needs of the music lovers.

Besides this, the handsets are providing ITunes compatibility as well, just like Motorola Rokr. Using Motorola Rokr one can synchronize the handset with ITunes software and load up to 100 songs in the handset which provide some more options for music lover. Nokia lacks this feature and will be facing a good competition with Motorola Rokr if it is considered from a music lovers point of view.

Camera

Nokia E-70 has an integrated digital 2.0 mega pixel camera, supporting 8 x digital zoom. The camera supports the pictures of resolution 1600 x 1200. You can also capture and play back the movie clips using the camera mounted in this handset. The video can be captured in three formats CIF, having resolution of 352 x 288, QCIF, having resolution of 176 x 144, and QCIF having resolution of 128 x 96 pixels. So there are a lot of options available for video recording, this is quite good.

How is it possible that the camera does not provide the functionality of choosing between the different picture resolutions? So the camera has the option to select one from the different available image resolutions, compression levels and capture modes, standard mode, portrait mode and night mode.

You can use the camera to capture sequential shots. The camera has a Self timer function as well, which is a new addition in handset cameras.

Along with all other features, you have been provided different encoding formats for recording like 3GPP, H.263 video and AMR radio.

In short, the camera performance is right up to the mark with today's standard and Nokia has provided a good camera as it has provided in most of its other handsets.

Battery Life

Nokia E70 is equipped with Standard Li-Ion battery 1150 mAh that used to give about 438 minutes of GSM talk time and can be active in stand by mode for about 223 hours (9.3 days) in a single battery charging.

Regarding the battery talk time, it is quite good that Nokia has also started to provide good batteries that give reasonable talk time. The battery is giving more talk time than other E-Series handsets like Nokia E-60 and Nokia E-61 but Nokia cannot compete with Sony Ericsson batteries which are the best in the market. Most of the batteries in Sony Ericsson handsets used to give more than 500 minutes like Sony Ericsson W900 which gives about 504 minutes, Sony Ericsson W550 giving 510 minutes and Sony Ericsson P990 that is giving 540 minutes of talk time. There are some of the Motorola handsets that are giving extraordinary talk time, like Motorola Rokr that is giving 540 minutes of talk time.

Talking about the Stand-by time, the battery's stand-by time is also quite poor and insufficient to meet the needs of this time. The battery is giving a little better time than Nokia E-60, but still is the worst battery which one can think of. Even E-61's battery is giving about 264 hours of stand-by time, which is 40 hours more than Nokia E-70's battery. Most of the handsets used to provide a better stand-by performance and used to give more than 300 hours generally. Consider Motorola E770, whose battery talk time is about 2.5 times less than Nokia E-70's talk time but it is giving 320 hours of standby time which is about 100 hours more than Nokia E-70's battery. Think of Sony Ericsson P990's battery which is giving consistent performance in both talk time and standby time as well, although it is not the best of all but still able to give about 170 extra hours than Motorola Rokr's battery, total of 400 hours. I would definitely add that Nokia 7360's stand by time is the best, totaling of 450 hours, which is about 2 times more than the Nokia E-70's battery performance.

So concluding that although Nokia E-70's battery is good if we consider only the talk time performance but on the other hand it is the poorest if we consider the stand-by performance, so a lot of work is needed to improve the over all battery performance.
