Browsing Support
The purpose of Nokia 7380 was not to focus the business lovers or internet lovers but still the handset provides support for browsing and can serve the needs of these users to some extent.
Nokia 7380 supports a WAP 2.0, xHTML, and HTML multimode browser to facilitate the internet browsing.
Messaging Support
Nokia 7380 supports two-way text messages along with concatenated SMS support, picture messaging and SMS to a distribution list often called multi-recipient messaging. Nokia 7380 also supports instant messaging to other handsets or computers (Web-Chat) and Nokia Xpress audio messaging as well. By the way, with the help of Nokia Xpress audio messaging, you can record your personalized messages (voices) and can send to other compatible devices.
Nokia 7380 is also capable of sending and receiving multimedia messages. Nokia 7380 supports MMS OMA 1.2 where you can place multiple items in a message like text, video, image and also AMR audio clips. You can also make a multi-slide presentation with this and send and receive such messages.
E-Mail Clients
Nokia 7380 lacks support of E-Mails and does not support any emailing protocols like SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4. This is quite weird that the handset does not support E-Mail, which is the most popular way of communication these days.
Memory
Nokia 7380 has only 52 MB of built-in memory that is shared among all of the applications. There is no card slot available to extend the memory. Just imagine that a handset that has a media player comes with such a small memory with no option to extend the memory.
Although there are handsets that also come with small memory but they have the option to extend the memory, like Nokia 3250 also has only 10 MB of internal memory but it has the MicroSD slot that allows the handset to increase the memory up to 1GB, but this handset does not have any such option available. I think that Nokia development team has just focused the design of the handset and screwed all of the functionality by eliminating the memory expansion slot and providing only 52 MB of internal shareable memory.
Better Browsing Capabilities
Although the current Nokia's browsing capabilities are sufficient to meet the basic browsing requirements but a lot of improvements are possible. Although the handset's targeted users are female but still there are a lot of handsets that love to browse the internet. So being a female phone does not mean to compromise the browser quality.
Nokia 7380 could have supported the compatibility of different markup languages as well like cHTML which is the support for mobile extension, different scripting languages like JavaScript, VBScript etc.
Providing File Upload functionality would have been produced quite interesting results in the sale of Nokia 7380. Saving web pages in the handset could have produced even far more better results than Nokia is getting with Nokia 7380's sale.
GPS
Global positioning system is also a demanding feature for the users. So this could be great winning points for the handsets that will be incorporating this feature in their handset. Nokia being a big market player could have taken that step in order to maintain its position in the market. A new mobile phone series called TWIG, a joint venture of Benefon and NAVTEQ, is going to be launched in about April 2006 that will contain fully integrated GPS system in them.
3G
3G, which is nowadays becoming a major factor for the mobile sale, is lacking in this handset. There are a lot of handsets produced by all major companies since last quarter of year 2005 that are providing 3G support, Sony Ericsson's W900, Motorola E770, Nokia's E-Series, are some of them, so it is quite strange that Nokia 7360 lacks this functionality.
USB Connectivity
One other functionality that is quite missed in this handset is lack of USB connectivity. Just imagine that a handset that has an MP3 player and lacks a USB connector to copy music from the computer or any other device to the handset. Although Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR is there to replace the USB connectivity feature but Bluetooth cannot fully replace USB functionality and ease.
