After the successful experiment of slider phones by Samsung, Nokia also started to participate and announced a series of slider phones in UMTS (Nokia 6280), fashion (Nokia 6111) and CDMA (Nokia 6270) segment. This article discusses the capabilities of Nokia 6111.

Features

Nokia 6111 has been given a small size with 128 x 160 pixel 262k rich screen. Its small size 84 x 47 x 23 mm, 76 cc, light weight 92g and smooth sliding mechanism give a stylish touch to the phone. I am glad to see that Nokia has come out from its traditional 128x128 screen to 128x160. Short in size, but not short in functionality, you will find everything required by a user of such phone's class. I think this is the point where Nokia gets the lead. Its handsets are basically designed to keep a specific subscriber in mind. Nokia 6111 is equipped with 1 Megapixel camera with flash and 6x digital zoom. Furthermore,
you will find most wanted features like EDGE, Push to Talk, Bluetooth etc. Stereo speakers and mp3 support is there but you can't use it as an mp3 player because you can't find an expansion slot in Nokia 61110. There is 23Mb built-in memory in Nokia 6111.

Conclusion

Nokia 6111 announced in June 2005 and will be released around final quarter of 2005. Absence of a card slot can be considered as a drawback. In my opinion, it will reduce the price and makes it more admirable for a specific user class. It seems that if Nokia slider series even got a minute response, one could expect another range of slider phones from Nokia. Samsung played well with slider form factor and still going fine; but now we have to see that how market leader Nokia competes with stylish Samsung !
