JAM

i-mate JAM PDA and a cellphone were always been tried to be merged. If something is close to a cellphone rather than PDa then its a smartphone eg Sonyericsson P910. While if a device is closer to PDA than a cellphone then its called a PDA phone eg i-mate JAM. Usually PDA phones were big in size, heavy in weight and were bound to specific networks while i-mate JAM changes the concept by bringing a smart, light and sim-free solution to the market.

Features

i-mate JAM dimensions are very close to Sonyericsson p910i i.e 108 x 58 x 18 mm and weighs only 150 grams. The front interface consists of a 320 x 240 pixel touchscreen with some dedicated buttons. While the back is depicting the 1.3 megapixel camera with a small self potrait mirror. As an overall look, i-mate JAM looks like a smart PDA that could easily fit into your hands.
Internally, i-mate JAM is housing an intel 416 Mhz PXA272 processor under windows mobile pocket pc edition. There is 64 MB RAM available basically for applications. Furthermore, there is an SD card slot for various purposes. i-mate JAM supports GSM/GPRS networks. There is no wifi built-in to i-mate JAM while bluetooth and IR are present. But, you can use wi-fi as an add-on in the 1SD card slot.
There is a bundle of applications that comes up with i-mate JAM and more can be installed because of the windows platform. Applications related to number dialing are also present. Battery time is efficient and acceptable with 1200 Mah battery. You can charge your PDA phone with the usb cable which also helps in sychnrizing with PC.
You will get all basic call manipulation functions such as speakerphone, SMS, MMS, photo caller-ID etc . Moreover, you could enjoy your i-mate while listening to music, watching videos, taking pictures, making movies, browsing, email etc.

Conclusion

i-mate JAM got announced by the end if year 2004. Its small size and some cut-features takes it away from a PDA. But, these features can take i-mate JAM to the pockets of more users. i-mate JAM is available in the markets with a price around 600$. In my opinion, the price seems acceptable. I would recommend this to Sonyericsson P900, P910i users to have something new and different in their hands. But make sure that you could live with the absence of a physical keypad.
